Support and Coaching for Caregivers

The VOC of WNY is proud to provide Operation Family Caregiver, the signature military program of the Rosalynn Carter Institute for Caregiving as part of our PFC Joseph P. Dwyer Peer Support Program.

Caring for military service members or Veterans who are just returning home can be challenging, regardless of the injuries they sustained. It can take a while for families to adjust to a “new normal.” Operation Family Caregiver is a free and confidential program to support military families through this transition.

Together, caregivers and specially-trained coached develop strategies to get through tough times and make plans for managing over the long term by strengthening coping skills and problem solving skills. They talk regularly over a 4- to 6-month, either in person or by phone or video.

Caregivers who have completed the program have reported increased satisfaction with their lives, fewer health complaints, and a general sense of feeling better prepared to take care of their families.

Our program currently serves WNY caregivers, as well as caregivers from across the United States.
